Judith Leiber was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, where she learned the handicraft of handbag making during the second world war. At the finish of World War Two, Judith fell in love with and married Gerson Leiber, a U.S. GI living in Budapest.
In 1947 the newlyweds immigrated to the United States and after years of working for various New York handbag manufacturing businesses, Mrs. Leiber launched the Judith Leiber Company in 1963.
Since then, the corporation has made world-renowned evening bags, handbags and accessories. The handbags are included in the permanent collections of museums around the world.
Whilst Mrs. Leiber retired in 1998, her monumental repercussion on handbag fashion keeps on. Alot of her prototype designs are still sold today. "The Artful Handbag", an informative book that chronicles the rich story of the Company may be purchased nowadays.
